Passage:  Nehemiah 1:4-7

Points

1.  Stressful news draws us to mourning and fasting.

2.  God keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands.

3.  Confession removes the prayer barriers.  It clears the way for our prayers to be heard.

Personalize

Nehemiah received the difficult news that his people were in a desperate situation.  He turned to his only hope, the Lord.  He realized his nation had not been faithful to the Lord and their sin led them to this situation.  In desperation he sought the Lord through prayer and fasting.  In his prayer he began to seek the forgiveness for his and his nation’s sins.  The Lord was faithful, yet His people were unfaithful and found themselves in need of His forgiveness and rescue.

Prayer

Lord reveal to us the sin that hinders our prayers and communion with you.  May we desperately seek and hunger for You.  We praise You and place our trust in You for You are always faithful, even in our unfaithfulness.
