Passage: Matthew 13:31-35
Points:
1. The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of seeds, but when planted it becomes one of the largest plants in the garden.
2. The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that is placed in a large amount of flour.
3. Jesus spoke in parables to reveal the hidden things of the kingdom.
Personalize
The kingdom of heaven is infectious. What may seem insignificant to the world makes a large impact in the lives of individuals. The life of a disciple is one lived in simplicity. Simply plant a mustard seed, a large plant is developed. Simply place a small amount of yeast in a large amount of flour and the whole lump is affected. Live with simplicity and your life will be transformed by its simple focus.
We are called to “simply” seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This seeking will result in everything else being revealed and provided. Seek first is the simple process of putting Christ’s desires first in our lives. When we choose this simple order of things, then the whole of life will be affected and it will bring about a huge change. In the kingdom of heaven the simple seeking of His purposes will make a tremendous impact in our lives and the lives of others.
Prayer
Lord, may the simple seeking of Your kingdom be the transforming element in our lives. May we allow this simplicity to transform the whole of life. We want you to produce in us your will and character. We commit to simplify our lives and seek first your kingdom. We will then know the power of the small and the simple focused life.
