Passage:  Matthew 15:29-39

Points:

1. The lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others were laid at the feet of Jesus.

2.  “The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking, and the blind seeing.  They praised the God of Israel.”

3.  Because of his compassion, Jesus called his disciples to respond to the needs of the people.

Personalize

Jesus was directed by real compassion.  He saw the needs of the multitudes and he was motivated to demonstrate his care and concern.  We see Jesus getting involved in the lives of others who were brought to him.  In this event we learn that many brought the lame, the blind, and others with physical needs and laid them at the feet of Jesus.  The faith of a friend and those who found themselves in need both demonstrated their confidence in Jesus to heal.  Jesus offered hope and help and the multitudes came to their source of healing.

Jesus responded to the needs of others with a tremendous amount of compassion.  He never grew weary in his efforts to fulfill His Father’s work.  Jesus was faithful to his mission.   “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.   He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,..” (Luke 4:18) When Jesus and the disciples grew weary, he never lost site of the needs of others.

Prayer

Lord, may we never “grow weary in well doing”.  You have given us the perfect example of how to persevere in compassion and not to loose site of our mission.  In the long days or times of rest, may we always be aware of the needs of others.  We are committed to our mission of making you known to the world.  May we remain faithful to our calling.
