27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, 28 for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Acts 17:27-28
Paul comes into Athens and recognizes that they are very religious as seen in their temples and idols. Yet they have missed the one they call the “unknown god”. Paul begins to show them the unknown god can be known because “in him we live and move and have our being”. All things were created by him and for him.
Religion and reverence for spiritual things can miss the mark and we can become blind to God Himself. It is not until we come to realize that we have been created by God and for His pleasure that religion takes on meaning. The practice of religion without a relationship will become futile and empty. The aim of our worship should be God, our Creator as revealed to us through Jesus Christ.
Lord reveal to us that we “live and move and have our being” only in you. May our worship find it’s purpose in loving and honoring you alone.
