13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. 15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” Acts 19:13-15
Paul’s ministry caught the attention of others in Ephesus. Many were being miraculously healed because of his ministry. Paul’s powerful ministry was enveyed by others in the region so others sought to use the name of Jesus in their healing practices. They quickly learned it is not in a special proclamation of the name of Jesus but the power comes through the Holy Spirit empowered individual.
There is power in the name of Jesus, but this power comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This relationship is stamped with the presence of the Holy Spirit. There is no special formula that we speak but it is in living in faithful obedience to the purposes of Christ in our lives and in yielding to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Lord empower us to live out your purposes in our daily lives.
