20 And when the blood of Stephen your witness was being shed, I myself was standing by and approving and watching over the garments of those who killed him.’ 21 And he said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'” Acts 22:20-21
Paul begins to share with those in the synagogue about his Jewish training and life as a persecutor of individuals who were part of “the Way”. He was also at the stoning of Stephen the first martyr. He explained that while he was watching over the garments of those who killed Stepehen, the Lord told him he would send him far away to the Gentiles.
There are times when individuals experience dramatic transformations and changes in their life and mission. Paul’s mission was dramatically changed from persecuting the followers of Christ to one who proclaimed Christ to the Gentiles. Transformations can only come from the stirring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As with Paul, the voice of Christ beacons to individuals and calls them to follow.
Lord we pray that we will hear your call of transformation. May we be faithful to follow your urging and mission for our lives.
