But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God. Romans 2:29
Paul throughout this chapter is pointing out that our right standing with God is a matter of the heart and commitment, not outward, religious practices. In verse twenty-nine Paul reveals circumcision is a matter of the heart and the inward commitment of an individual. It is a work of the Spirit and not of the law nor the works of man.
We often can become prideful by the religious practices we fulfill. We begin to think that it is in our good deeds, sacrifices, and giving that we find our righteousness. Paul reveals it is not in our works but in the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit where we find our right standing with God. May we set aside our own efforts and yield to the works of Christ in our lives.
Lord we praise you and commit our ways to the works of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
