16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. Romans 9:16-18 ESV
God’s work is displayed so that His power and His name “my be proclaimed in all the earth”. The driving force of all God’s sovereign work is to bring glory to Himself. It is not the work of man but solely the redemptive work of God. God will use those whom He chooses to accomplish what He desires for His glory and His honor.
God’s will is for His name to be “proclaimed in all the earth”. Our aim in life and in our witness is to step out of the way and allow the Holy Spirit to glorify God in all ways. By yielding to God we allow Him to determine when we are given mercy and when hardship. No matter how God chooses to use us may we be yielded vessels for His great and glorious work.
Father, be glorified in us for your name’s sake and for your glory.
