9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. – James 1:9-11 ESV
We boast in our lowliness because we will be exalted; yet in our riches we will be humbled. Riches will fade away like the grass withers in the heat of summer.
Often we boast in our personal pursuits and accomplishments. In God’s kingdom our exaltation does not come through personal achievements but in our humiliation. The accomplishments measured by our rich pursuits do not compare to our humble yielding to God’s purposes. It is in yielding to God’s purposes that we will exalted.
Lord may I yield my personal pursuits to you plans and purposes. Exalt us for your glory alone.
