19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. – James 1:19-21 ESV
We are instructed to be quick to hear but slow to speak and anger. Anger does not lead to the righteousness of God. We are to put away those things that lead us away from God but to be guided by the “implanted word” that saves souls.
Everyday we are overwhelmed with talk radio, tv news and opinions expressed in the office. Everyone has something to say on just about every topic. We are “quick to speak” and express what we think but we are slow to listen for what others have to say or even God wants to impress upon us. Let us speak less and listen more. Like the old saying, “God gave us two ears and one mouth so we will listen twice as much as we speak”.
Lord, may Your words, that lead to life, be more and louder than the words we speak. We desire to listen to you, Lord speak.
