A Heart Connection

Scripture

8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.  9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.  10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. – James 3:8-10

Observation

The tongue cannot be tamed because from the same mouth comes a curse and a blessing.

Application

Our speech can me mixed with blessings and curses. In one moment we can be exalting Christ in worship and in the next we are complaining how loud the music is.  What it reveals is that our heart is often divided.  Jesus instructs us that “…what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.” – Matthew 15:18

When our mouth spouts mixed messages and words contrary to what glorifies God, we need to evaluate our heart. We need to allow God to reveal our true heart condition. If we speak constant words that do not edify Christ then our heart is out of balance. Let us return back to the Lord so that He may draw us back to himself.

Prayer

Lord make adjustments to our heart condition so that our words may follow.
