Open to Counsel

Scripture

“Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.”  ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Observation

We will be blessed when we listen to instruction and not reject correction.

Application

It is important that we remain teachable. When we are open to instruction we are able to learn from life situations and correct the areas in which we have strayed. The refusal to listen and follow instruction will result in a life that drifts and is led by personal preference rather than God’s counsel and wisdom.

For men, isolation is a key to the downfall of many. When a man moves away from the counsel of others he begins to drift and they experience a downfall. We need others in our lives who will provide counsel and accountability. When we separate ourselves from others loneliness will set in and we drift to things that are not healthy and helpful. May we always seek the advice of others and remain connected to others who can point us toward Christlikeness.

Prayer

Lord may I be open to the counsel and guidance of others. Lead me to a “band of brothers” who will come alongside and provide advice and accountability.
