“If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.” Proverbs 25:21-22 ESV
We are instructed to do good to those who seek to do us harm. In doing so we will be rewarded by the Lord and our enemy will feel the burning pains of guilt.
Our reaction to our enemies should be the same response we have received from the Lord. In Romans we read: “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, ..”. Romans 5:10. In our rejection of God and our wayward living God expressed His love to us trough His Son, Jesus Christ.
When we face those who seek to harm us or express anger and bitterness toward us the Word has instructed us to express kindness and mercy. No greater example of this type of mercy than in what Jesus Christ has done for us. When expressing kindness to our enemies it is our prayer that many will be won to Christ as we were won to Christ through His grace and mercy.
Lord may I live as you have lived in caring for individuals and pointing them to your love and mercy.
